Community Interest and The Chance to Dance

Cheltenham Swing Dance are a not-for-profit Community Interest Company that wants everyone to have the chance to dance. So why do we still charge you money, and what do we do with it?

There are a surprising number of running costs involved, which we need some income to cover. This includes things like insurance to teach and run events, venue hire, website hosting and email.

After we’ve covered our costs, any money left we are aiming to put back into the ‘scene’. This includes subsidising bands to play for us, guest teachers and guest DJs, for example. We also need to build up a small cushion of money to enable us to outlay for larger events.

A Chance to Dance

CSD believe that everyone should have the opportunity to fall in love with dance and to learn The Lindy Hop, no matter your financial situation. 

We recognise that individuals may feel unable to attend classes or social dances when money becomes tight. We do not want money to be a barrier for dancers to pursue their passion to learn more about Lindy Hop and the culture from where it originates. 

If money is a barrier to attending class then please email us for details for the ‘chance to dance’. 

You will need to let us know if you’d like to attend regular classes or dances. Aside from this you won’t be asked any questions and you won’t need to explain your situation. All requests will be kept confidential by CSD. 

We will let you know what we can offer you in terms of free classes and events to enable to you enjoy Lindy Hop. 

The swing dance community is a supportive and inclusive environment and we hope that if you do find yourself in difficult circumstances, you are comforted by the knowledge that you are part of our family. This is our way of supporting you.
