What is Lindy Hop?
Lindy Hop is the mother of all the swing dances. Sometimes called Jitterbug, it’s the forerunner of Modern Jive, Boogie Woogie, Rock & Roll, Ceroc and much more.
Its origins are firmly as an African-American dance, which originated in the 1920s and 30s in Harlem, New York.

The music
With Lindy Hop it’s all about the music – think Duke Ellington, Count Basie, The Rat Pack and Ella Fitzgerald – with a bit of Michael Bublé thrown in. It’s a partner dance which just keeps evolving. Above all, it is full of energy and fun, great exercise and a brilliant way of making new friends.

CheltenhamSwing.Dance is a not-for-profit organisation and commits to running Safer Spaces for dancing. CheltenhamSwing.dance commits to honouring the roots of Lindy Hop and all the dances that came from it.
